About Thomas Driesen

Thomas Driesen in Palm Springs, California (2022)

Thomas Driesen (°1988) is a Belgian photographer and conceptual artist. His work is often characterised by pronounced graphics, vibrant colors, and visual refinement. Mundane objects like a car taillight or a plastic bag on the street can suddenly transform into abstract artworks. Ordinary items are stripped of their original function, serving purely as aesthetic forms.

In his more conceptual series, he examines reality both literally and figuratively through his own lens. The series ‘Stalin Unglorified’ reinterprets the glorious portraits in the Stalin museum in Gori, Georgia, in a less glorious light, highlighting the museum's sloppy details. Or in ‘Cones of DiCaprio’, where he turned the photo of a traffic cone on the Hollywood star's driveway into the first art print that can only be sold to Leonardo DiCaprio.

His work has been showcased at Art Basel, Les Rencontres d’Arles, and most recently at Galerie Joseph Le Palais in Paris.
